1. Moving from Babice, Austria to New Jersey to work the docks, Frantisek (Frank) Sumicek arrived in Ellis Island, NY. on 30 Apr 1907 on board the Grosser Kurfurst out of Breman, Germany. His family followed him to America the following year on board the Kronprinz Wilhelm out of Bremen, Germany to Ellis Island, NY., arriving on the 6th of Aug. 1908. He settled his family in New Jersey until 1915, when they moved to Bridger, Montana, due to the poor health of his wife, Frances. He was a coal miner in Montana, and was one of the 74 men killed in the explosion at Smith Mine in Bearcreek during the winter of 1943.

1. From an email to me from Robert Lee “Bob” Wakenshaw: “Frank and Frances Sumicek homesteaded near Bridger, Mt., which is near the area of Boyd and Joliet, Mt. At one time there was a town called Carbonado near Boyd. It was a thriving mining town.”
