NameRichard BIDDLECOME [117]
Birthabt 1710, Newport,, Rhode Island [117], [248]
Birth MemoPossibly 1706
Misc. Notes
1. Spelling is “Biddlecombe” on marriage records; Owned property in Vermont in 1741 - spelling was “Biddlecome” in Vermont records. [117]

2. There have been numerous immigrant Biddlecome and Biddlecombe families in the 19th and 20th centuries, but only two known prior to 1800; a James Biddlecome shows up in Virginia in the 1600s, and Richard Biddlecombe who at the age of 16 was an indentured servant to Mr. Walter Haynes when they arrived in Sudbury, Massachusetts in 1636. In Rhode Island of the early 1700s there appear two lines of Biddlecome families that caused a lot of confusion for years. Thomas Biddlecombe and his descendents have NO KNOWN CONNECTION to my line of this RICHARD BIDDLECOME. It is very possible that they are related (in fact, Thomas may be a son of this Richard). DAR records of the 1930s were in error when they identified the RW pensioner Richard Biddlecome as a son of Thomas and likewise a Daniel Biddlecome as a son of Thomas. In truth, this Daniel and Richard were father and son serving in Vermont, and were descendents of the elder Richard (my line). Thomas DID have sons named Richard and Daniel with the son Richard having served also. The conincidental commanality of names and geographic locations does seem to make it likely that Thomas and Richard were related, but to date NO proof has yet to be found. There are several records of Bassett transactions that appear in both families, and maybe something more can be found, though there are a great deal of early Rhode Island records sitting at the bottom of the sea due to warfare.
