From the Obituary in the Picket Journal, 3 Dec 1925: “...Enlisting in the Navy within a few weeks after the United States entered the world war, Mr. White served with distinction, though never getting to active service on the sea. He reached rank of Fireman First Class up to the time of his discharge on December 30, 1918. One of the largest turnouts ever seen in Bearcreek attended the esteem in which he was held there. Services were held in Lodge Temple hall, under the auspices of the Bearcreek lodge of Knights of Pythias. The United Mine Workers also attended in a body...”
