1. Homesteaded a farm at Boyd, Montana about 1895. Arrived in the US on SS Amglia at NYC 13 May 1873, NY passenger arrivals film #0175730 4-25-1873 to 5-14-1873. William came with his wife Margaret and family. Margaret’s father, Robert Barrowman was already here. Researched by Rick White. [62]

2. From the Obituary in the Picket Journal, 24 Sept 1931: “...Mr. White was one of the first miners at Carbonado, and helped sink the 1,000 foot shaft through which the Marcus Daly interests expected to take out coal from the prolific seams underlying that region. With the adbandonment of the attempt to make Carbonado a commercial coal center, Mr. White took up ranching near that camp, then returned to mining when Bearcreek became a promising coal center. With the coming of advanced age, he reutrned again to farming and in recent years has been unable to take active part in the work. Born in Stevenson, Ayrshire, Scotland on July 23, 1854, Mr. White spent his youthful years in his native land and was married in 1873 to Miss Margaret Barrowman, the young couple embarked upon their married life by taking ship for America. They settled first at Rock Springs, Wyoming, where Mr. White was employed in the mines for several years. Then they went eastward to Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, and back to Montana, where they have since resided.” [61]

NOTE: William is listed as living with another family next door to his own, and listed just before his own family in the Census, on lines 6 -10. This family’s name is hard to read, but it could be SAUERWEIN, in which case, there is a Mary Sauerwein (age 17, POB Missouri) living there also, which is William’s wife’s name. More research is needed here.

6. In a letter from Margaret “Peggy” NORMILE Bailey, she writes about the photo of the three WHITE sisters I sent her (her aunts):
“I don’t have the photo you sent me but I have 3 photos taken at the same time this one was taken. Mary is in the center, Grace is to her right, Christina (Teen) is to her left. My mother, Jean, visited Mary about that time also. My mother was the tallest of the 6 girls & Mary was the shortest, also looks like the thinnest. Mom said Mary fit right under her bosom. Well, she wouldn’t have gotten wet in a rain!”
