4.From the Ottawa (KS) Journal and Triumph, July 30, 1885:
"Another of our citizens has passed away by death. Thos. J. Ivey was born in Clay county Ky., Jan 11th, 1811. He died in Williamsburg, Kas., July 25, 1885, being 74 years, 6 mos. and 14 days of age. Mr. Ivey removed from Kentucky to Indiana in 1833, where he was married to Miss Sarah A. Boicourt, who now survives him. From Indiana they moved to Illinois in 1834, and in 1855 they came to Kansas, where he remained until his decease. Mr. Ivey was greatly afflicted as an invalid, for a number of years, but did not succumb to the king of terrors until the acute attack which his enfeebled condition was unable to bear, quickly ended in his death. He leaves a wife and nine children (all grown) to mourn his departure."

Misc. Notes
Thomas John and Sarah Jane “Sally” (Boicourt) Ivey lived in Clark County, Indiana before they moved to Schuyler County, Illinois in 1836. Thomas worked as a cooper, and his services were much needed. He made casks, barrels, buckets and even butter churns. In 1850, the family lived in Bainbridge Township, Illinois. Eight of their 15 children were born in Illinois; John Saddler (1838); William (1840); Charles Wesley (1842); Henry (1844) twins, Emily and Adaline (1846) Sarah Angeline (1849); Newton Jasper (1850). They moved to Kansas in 1855, and were among the first settlers on Middle Creek in Franklin Co. They were there illegally, but so were many others. The Indians were not moved off the land until 1857, but the families who came there were allowed to stay on the land they had claimed.
