Misc. Notes
1. From a taped interview with Beatrice Wakenshaw Nov 2001: “ Uncle Richard was in the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War. The Phillippine-American war was a mere small portion of the main war being fought in Cuba and the surrounding area. During 1897-1901, American troops were sent to the Phillippines to fight.”

2. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army 6 Dec 1909 and was discharged on 20 Dec 1912 at Fort McPherson, Georgia. A napkin was found in his truck that gives the menu and a list of soldiers for the Christmas dinner in 1911. Richard married Pearl when he was discharged and they bought property on 14 Aug 1913 in Saloma. The farm and the house still stand and is presently owned by Donnie Blair family. After the separation, Richard moved back home with his parents. He worked at several jobs and on 1 June 1925 he married Marie Nall. They lived in several places near the homeplace. Marie died in 1943 after a short illness. He continued to live with her mother, Nona Nall in her homeplace until his death in 1952. [9]
