1. 1841 UK Census, Northumberland, Seghill, Old Square shows John Ross, age 20, coal miner, not born in County; Elizabeth Ross, age 15, born in County. Their marriage certificate from 1940 shows Elizabeth as a minor. [643]

2. Also noted in the 1841 census on the same page and above is the family of Thomas Ross, age 25 (also a coal miner) and his wife, Isabella, age 20 and daughter, Hannah, age 7 months. Isabella and Hannah born in Northumberland, but Thomas Ross was not. Is it possible that Thomas is an unknown brother of John Ross? [643]
