1. A farmer by occupation. Owning thousands of acres of land, he dealt in lending money. “30 years a member of the Baptist Church” (from the tombstone) [6]

2. Notes for JOHN CHANDLER SANDERS: John Chandler Sanders and Elizabeth Shipp were couisns. Elizabeth is the daughter of Ruth Sanders and Thomas Shipp. Ruth and Elijah (John Chandler Sanders father) were the children of Henry Sanders Sr. [127]

Will of John Chandler Sanders:
"I John C. Sanders of the State of Kentucky and County of Taylor, being of feeble health but of a ...mind and memory do now constitute.....my last will and testament.
Item 1. It is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid.
Item 2. It is my will and desire that my wife in case she out live me to hold the home tract of land and all the appenitures therein together with all my household property
as ...much...as she may choose to ....to have hold and enjoy during her natural life, also to the Marr place containing about fifty acres of land.
Item 3. My wife is to have the benefit and use of our slaves so long as she ....keep them though should they become unmanageable she may hire them out to the family the
proceeds to be...the minor children's benefit.
Item 4. It is my will and desire that all my ....estate as soon....shall be collected and placed out on interest. Said interest to be used for clothing and schooling for my minor
children, nancy Robinson and G. Alfred Caldwell, the principle of which shall not be used for any purpose whatever except for the support of my wife.
Item 5. It is my will and desire that for the love and affection for my son-in-law Isaac Chaudoin and my daughter Margaret Chaudoin to have all that I have heretofore
give them also the fifty acres of adjoining them at six dollars per acre.
Item 6. That my daughter Mary Jane Wright have all I have heretofore given her and the ...of land upon which she now livees, said land not to be subject to any of his,
Washington G. Wright's present indebtedness or hereafter at six dollars per acre.
Item 7. That my son E. T. Sanders have all that I have heretofore given him and the ...of land upon which he now lives be charged six dollars per acre. Farther my son
Thomas ...the collectionof a land of which my son Henry is now under to keep the peace and especially toward his wife that in that event my son Thomas shall be charged
the full amount of the bond.
Item 8. That my son H.E. Sanders have all I have heretofore given him and a hundred and twenty five acres of land ajoining Robert Robinsons to be charged five dollars
per acre.
Item 9. That my son John C. Sanders have all I have heretofore given him. The tract of land upon which he now lives at six dollars per acre except a piece of land cut off
by meadering of a branch and up to the Campbellsville and Saloma road.
Item 10. That my son Robert B. Sanders have all I have heretofore given him and all the bounary of land upon which he now lives at five dollars per acre.
Item 11. That my daughter Elizabeth have all I have heretofore given her and that as soon as she may select a piece of land of which I am now possessed and not above
divided the value ofwhich shall not exceed five hundred dollars. She may have and enjoy it for a home but in the event she may see proper to remove therefrom she then
my be entitled to any rent that may arise thereof the land not to be sold during the life time of her husban if she should out live him then she is to have the land to do as
she pleases with.
Item 12. That my daughter Ann Shofner have all I have heretofore given her and the tract of land upon which I have rented to apperson, at four dollars per acre to hold
during her natural life should she out live her husban then she can do as she please with ite but if she should die first without issue then to fall back to the family.
That my daughter Nancy and my son George Alfred Caldwell be made equal in property with the rest of my children when they to housekeeping comp....hourses, saddles,
bed and bed clothing and I desire further that if Nancy if she choose may select any piece of land I have prosessed if not already devised to be taken at a June valuation if
she don't choose to select land to be made equal with the rest.
Item 13. That my son George Alfred Caldwell in additon to the above have the home tract of land at one thousand dollars together with the Marr place at the death of his
father and mother.
Item 14. It is my will and desire that all my childre share equal in my estate those of them who have unequal amounts first be made equal witht the rest also that my
grandson William Thomas Sanders at the final...up of my estate shall receive five hundred dollars provided that he comes and receives it in person.
Item 15. That my executors E.T. Sanders, John C. Sanders whom I appoint shall be vested with the power to sell and convey all my lands that has not as above been
disposed of upn such a creditor as they may see proper and with every other power necessary for the winding up of my estate in full as set forward and herein devised.
In testamony whereof I ....to fix my seal and set my hand this 30th July 1861.
