1. Took a partial course at Princeton College, and some years later, in 1824, graduated from the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania. From 1830 until his death, November 1, 1835, he was professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Princeton College. Prior to studying medicine he was, during the War of 1812, 1st Lieutenant of a company of Gloucester County Volunteers, and in 1818, was chosen to represent that company in the New Jersey Assembly.
