Misc. Notes
1. From a CD of documents I received from Jack Fink in 2001: “Elzie worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad in Illinois. In 1922, Burlington went on strike, when this happened Elzie left his family in Beardstown and went to Denver, Colorado to work for the C&S Railroad under an assumed name. Later in 1922, his wife Viola, and the children went to Denver in search of Elzie. Viola explained to the management that she was looking for her husband, and they lined all the workers up. Viola went through this line, and picked Elzie out. In 1923, Elzie was laid off the C&S, and they went to Cheyenne, Wyoming to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked there for a short time, was laid off and returned to Parker, Colorado, where he went to work on a dairy farm. This job lasted only a short time. He then went to work for the Rio Grande Railroad in Colorado. Elzie retired from the Rio Grande Railroad in 1948.”
