Misc. Notes
1. From a taped interview with Beatrice Wakenshaw Nov 2001, in which I commented on the looks of some of our relatives, saying that a few looked like gangsters to me. We were looking at a photo of the Sanders family at Christmas, and uncle Albert was one in the picture I had seen before. I said to grandma that he looked like one of the gangsters I saw before, and she said: “He was. I’ll tell ya (laughing), he was in ‘immoral business’. He ran a prostitution ring, shipping girls who were willing to be prostitutes through his barber college downtown, that was his cover up. (more laughing) I’m telling you this cuz it’s the truth. (more laughing). He would ship these girls over to Kansas City, Missouri. He was in with the pimps, or whatever you call them, over there. Well, he made the mistake one time of not sending them over on the train, and took them in his car. And of course they were on the look out for him, and they caught him and he was sent to prison. They sent him to the state of Washington, and he was in prison up there for one year. Then he went to San Francisco, Ca. and was the manager of one of the famous hotels there. And I’ll bet that he was doing ‘something’ at that hotel, but he got along the rest of his life all right.”

2. From the 1930 US Census, California, San Francisco, San Francisco City, Ward AD22, Block 31A, Sheet 18A, Market Street [The Palace Hotel]; Enumerated 9-12 Apr 1930, Line 31:
Albert Sanders; Lodger; Age 30; Single; POB Illinois; Father POB Illinois; Mother POB Illinois; Occupation - Speciality Salesman.
