Misc. Notes
1. Taken from some information in a letter I received from Bob Wakenshaw, Jan 2002: “His death was a tragic one. He had been antelope hunting with some friends. He had gotten his antelope the week before, but went with them to help. They apparently spotted some antelope and got out of their vehicles. As he had already had his antelope, he did have his gun out in case he had to help the others get theirs. He apparently put his gun back in his gun rack in his Dodge 4WD Ram with the safety on. At least that’s what would have been expected. He left his friends and headed across the hills for home. On a narrow dirt road, his vehicle went off the road in an area which was an earth fill of a gully. The vehicle rolled over and ended up on it’s wheels heading back up the fill and with a fence behind. Max never used to wear a seat belt, and I’m sure he and the gun got tossed around and he probably got mad as hell. It appears he put the gun, which had come out of the rack, butt down on the passenger seat. Then from the tracks in the soft fill, he must have had it in four wheel drive, and in that soft fill it just dug in and bounced. The gun went off and the bullet went through his heart and out the window.”
