Misc. Notes
1. Lenora Hill was a Chief Hospital Corpsman (HMC) in the U.S. Navy during Korea and Vietnam.
2. The following is the Preface to the Coat of Arms Resaearch Report on the Hill family, compiled by Lenora Hill, from the years 1961 - 1993:“I am pleased to present the history and genealogy of the HILL family, as well as that of many relatives, to the best of my knowledge at this time, and particularly the Douglass, Adams, Douglas and Ferrill families. Genealogy is not my profession, but is a hobby which I thoroughly enjoy.
“There is little in this book which I wrote on my own. Excerpts from the records, or quotes from individuals, comprise the bulk of the text. The source is either quoted verbatum or paraphrased, then recognized and duly credited.
“ Collection of data and material for this book started about 1961 with discussions between my sister, Ocie Hill Long, and her daughter, Sandra Long Lewis, and Florence Merkley, a well-known genealogist in Taylor County. This work started as a class project while Sandra was in Campbellsville College. Some of the material has been collected through friends of the family, family members, and acquaintenances with members of the David Allen Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
“Some of the basic sources of genealogical data: records and personal testimony, family genealogy, community histories, federal census, wills, deeds and other recorded sources have been used.
“Publications: Douglass history of, W. R. King, Tonkawa, Oklahoma, 30 July 1968 and related family names; Green County Marriage Records; Taylor County Marriage Records; Green County Deeds; Taylor County Deeds and Wills; History of the Baptist Movement in Virginia and Kentucky.
“Every effort consistent with my time and financial capability have been made to make the Hill family and most of the relatives, a just and true record. There will be found inacuracies as these are quite likely to occur in any work of this kind. Those that may be detected are errors of the hand and not of the heart. It is presented as a labor of love and not one for profit. I hope it will prove to be of some interest and value to all who read it. If it serves only as a stimulus to others to make further investigation into the family lines, then my work will not have been in vain. Much valuable information has already been lost to poserity by reason of lack of interest in the family by generations past.”
