1. Her obituary written by her sister, Mary as it appeared in the Ottawa Herald and Colorado Springs Gazette:Barbara M. Ivey, 77, passed away June 29, 2006 in Kansas City. Barbara was born December 17, 1928, in Ottawa, KS, one of the daughters of Charles Harley and Ofelita (Sornberger) Ivey. She graduated from Ottawa (KS) High School in 1946, and held a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Emporia (KS) State University. Miss Ivey has many classmates in the Ottawa area, and was a member of a pioneer family, who came to Franklin Co. in 1855.
Barbara was Chief Librarian, Acquisitions Division, USAF Academy Library in Colorado Springs, CO, for many years. Her previous positions as a civilian employee of the Army and Air Force took her to Tokyo Army Hospital, Japan, during the Korean War; Verona, Italy; Metz, Orleans and Paris, France, SAC base, Omaha, NE; Bremerhaven and Heidelberg, Germany; and NATO base, Brunssum, Netherlands. During her time abroad she traveled to many other parts of the world. After retirement, she worked in the public libraries of Colorado Springs.
Preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Bettyanna Fisher and Frank Ivey. Survived by other siblings: Charles H. Ivey, Jr., Wichita, KS; Mary (Jerome) Kramer, Tucson, AZ; Paula (Robert) Colgan, Orlando, FL; and 14 nephews and nieces, to whom she was a wonderful aunt. She will be remembered for her generosity and raucous sense of humor. The body was cremated and her ashes will be scattered in a place she loved.
